Pontos Winches partners with SORC for 2016
"The Solo Offshore Racing Club (SORC) is delighted to announce that Pontos, designer and manufacturer of four-speed winches, has signed up as a supporting partner for the inaugural 600nm, SORC Round the Rock Race sponsored by Virgin Media Business. In addition, Pontos will be the headline sponsor for SORC’s 2016 Inshore Race Series including the highly popular Round the Isle of Wight (RIOW) Race being held on the weekend of the 7th May 2016.
“Involvement with the first SORC Round the Rock Race and with SORC’s inshore series racing is a highly appropriate partnership for Pontos in the UK. Pontos winches have been developed with some of the world’s best solo racing sailors, and we are proud to be working alongside the team at SORC and Virgin Media Business to promote the success of this challenging event”, said Darryl Spurling, Co-founder of Pontos, “Shorthanded sailing across the world is rapidly increasing in popularity, and SORC is a major driving force in the UK."
Nigel Colley, Director at SORC commented “I want to thank Pontos for their support of SORC and look forward to developing this into a longer term partnership. It is great to have their involvement both with our 2016 Inshore Race Series and as a supporting partner for our new season feature, the SORC Round the Rock Race. In less than two months time a highly competitive fleet of over 50 international solo skippers will be sailing on one of the most demanding offshore race courses, covering over 600 miles from Cowes, rounding the iconic Fastnet Rock off Southern Ireland before finishing in Plymouth.
We are really pleased to be working with a partner such as Pontos that is delivering innovative marine products that drive and support the development of shorthanded sailing. I have upgraded to Pontos winches on my own Sun Fast 3600 and the improvement in short handed sail handling is extraordinary."
Pontos will be supplying event shirts, flags and money behind the bar in Plymouth!
Pontos, a specialist yacht winch company based in St Malo France are the world's only producers of four-speed manual winches. Their advances in winch design offer significant benefits to all types of sailors: simplified tacking and faster sail handling with their high speed “Grinder” range; and much greater ease of use with the “Trimmer” range, which deliver three times the power of conventional two speed manual winches. They also manufacture the small but powerful “Compact”, 2-speed winch. Pontos winches are being fitted by discerning racing and cruising sailors across the globe.
With the introduction of 4-speed technology, Pontos have opened up new upgrade markets in yacht winches; previously few sailors changed their winches until they were unserviceable.
Pontos are available through a network of dealers across Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and the Far East. In the OEM market, Pontos winches are increasingly being offered as options by major manufacturers such as Arcona, JPK, RM, Gunboat, and Pogo, often in response to demand from new owners."
