Boat Type: Contessa 32
Sail Number: CO640
I started sailing whilst a babe in arms, or strictly speaking, babe in carry-cot tied into the boat when we had to collect my older sister from the Isle of Wight. That was on my parents Contessa 32, and now with my own children history is repeating itself.
While I have raced fully-crewed boats for 25 years and been a skipper for half that time it is only been in the last 10 years that I have sailed solo and the last 5 that I have raced solo, mostly with SORC in coastal and cross-channel races. Results under IRC have generally been good and with the boat on a diet over the winter, more training and new sails I have high hopes for 2016.
My sailing CV includes an Atlantic crossing (the wrong way – back to Europe), cruising in the Med, and 2-handed deliveries the length of the UK. My most enjoyable short-handed race was the 2011 AZAB completed 2-handed, a race I want to do again but solo. Since then I have continued to update the boat for single-handed racing (including an AIS alarm that will wake the dead!) and have been building up single-handed miles with a dedicated week of solo sailing each summer.
The soloFASTNET is unfinsihed business for me as I retired from the 2016 event. Looking forward to settingthe record straight!
