I started sailing whilst a babe in arms when travelling to collect my older sister from her grandparents on the Isle of Wight. That was on my parents Contessa 32, and now with my own Children and Co32 history is repeating itself.

I have raced fully-crewed boats for more than 25 years and been a skipper for half that time, It is over the last 10 years that I have increasingly sailed solo and started racing single-handed with SORC in 2013 coming 2nd in their Solo Round the Island Race.  Since then I have done many inshore and offshore races with the club who have been very supporting and encouraging.

My sailing CV includes an Atlantic crossing (the wrong way – back to Europe), cruising in the Med, and 2-handed deliveries the length of the UK.  My most enjoyable short-handed race was the 2011 AZAB completed 2-handed, a race I want to do again but solo.

Over the last few year years have made changes and additions to Concerto to make single-handed racing both easier and safer. The include an AIS and RTE alarm that will wake the dead, better autopilot and improved sail-handling systems. I have been building up single-handed miles with a dedicated week of solo sailing each summer.

The soloFASTNET is unfinished business for me as I retired from the 2016 event and I look forward to setting the record straight!
