Boat Type: Jeanneau Sun Fast 3600
Sail Number: GBR3759L
Chris has raced dinghies from the early sixties. Twice OK Open National Champion; 4th and 6th in the last two World Championships, always selected for the UK Team.
Merlin National Champion at second attempt. Laser Masters Radial National Champion. Still races an RS400 but only on the estuary.
He has had cruisers since moving to Exmouth in the early 80's - SK700 Mini-tonner; Bolero; Laser 28 3rd + 4th overall in Round The Island IRC, won Brixham, Torquay, and Dartmouth Regattas several times. Also did one of the early Cork Weeks in this boat, won a team prize with Peter Bruce and Ian Campbell. Cruised all of them to the Channel Islands and north Brittany with a young family. Then sold up and re-mortgaged the house to take the kids to their first Cadet Worlds in Hobart as 11 and 13 year olds. Went fifteen years without a boat while travelling and preparing boats for his sons until they could get to events themselves, then started with cruisers again:-
X79 from Copenhagen; another Laser 28 which he modified and again won all the local regattas including Dartmouth IRC overall and class wins in Round The Island. Next an X332 Peanut, then an Elan 350 followed by the Sun Fast 3600. In both of these he won PASAB and the South Devon Clubs Offshore Week and cruised the Channel, often singlehanded.
The soloFASTNET will be Chris's first taste of serious offshore solo yacht racing, but with a competitve pedigree and some early season training, he is sure to put in a spirited performance.
